After the publish of HTC U11: Audio[Autour: Soomal], U11 adaptor was popular for a short while unexpectedly. There are still many people who have a special demand for audio have a strong desire to upgrade smartphone audio. Does any manufacturer want to develop this market? There is a remaining problem needed to be verified in former review.
The harmonic distribution showed abnormal in 44.1kHz frequency,in which we said in the original text that it's maybe an accident of HTC programmer. Later on, many readers reminded that maybe there's something wrong with the default player, Netease cloud music, on which we didn't pay much attention. Because the former tests for example, on OnePlus 3, used Netease cloud music but didn't encounter such problem. Then we compared with OnePlus 5, which also adopted Netease cloud music as their default player, and similar harmonic appeared. By this time, we have realized Netease cloud music maybe the root of the problem.
We have downloaded a google Play Music on U11 for frequency scanning tests, and all were normal. Thus the suspension of Netease cloud music became more serious.
We tested again on Sony Xperia XZ Premium, using Netease cloud music, but it's normal. In addition, we also tested on Microsoft Lumia 950XL,using U11 adaptor and Netease cloud music at once, and it's still normal.
Although HTC is still a Chinese brand, but it was not appealing to China mainland users for lacking localization. This time, U11 uses Netease Cloud Music as the build-in music player.
After troubleshooting variant versions, we found that problems do exist in some versions of Netease cloud music. The integrated version of Netease cloud music in U11 was 126.96.36.199930 , which was a little higher than in OnePlus 5, but both had similar problems. Not all smartphones with low version had problems, for example, the integration of OnePlus 3 was well, but the version, 4.0.2, that Xperia XZ Premium used was a little lower than OnePlus 5. Only Netease cloud knows what's going on. The latest 4.1.2 and the slightly elder 4.1.1 were normal. If you cannot stand such erratic property, then you should abandon this APP or avoid upgrading after you have made sure there are no bugs.
Since we have solved the problem, let's test again.

The harmonic disappearedŁ¬and new quantitative results were almost the same as the result on Xperia XZ Premium with U11 adapter. But it didn't pass the Hi-Res test, and the it was the same after changing to Play Music.
Compared with the former sound performance, it sounded a little clearer. Compared with the sound performance of Xperia XZ Premium with U11, high frequency resolution was a little weaker but imperceptible. Compared with smartphones without separate DAC chip, the two sound performances were close and had obvious advantages, and U11 adaptor brought fuller and thicker sound. In comparison with some smartphones based on AK4376, U11 adaptor had advantages in dynamic, transient and power, mainly losing in resolution. Overall, smartphones using U11 adaptor was not inferior. Put simply, as long as the APP doesn't have problems, the sound of smartphones based on U11 adaptor can reach the weakest level of smartphones with separate DAC chip, and it is better than most smartphones without separate DAC chips.
With this adapter, any smartphone can be better than any smartphone without separated DAC in audio in thicker and more concreted sound, as well as slightly better resolution. So, how about those smartphones with separated DAC? We use vivo Xplay 6, which is one of the best Hi-Fi smartphones, for a comparison. We consider that this adapter is as good as Xplay 6 in sound thickness, but Xplay 6 still wins in resolution and density. We can draw a conclusion that this adapter provides a fair sound quality that is between those smartphones with and without separated DAC.
HTC U11 adaptor is quite well, and the similar reference is iPhone 7 adaptor design. In fact, iPhone 7 falls behind slightly in adaptor, while U11 adaptor steps to the best campaign of smartphones without separate DAC chips. What's more interesting is that the adaptor not only wins praise to HTC but also brings benefits to competitors. Also, the general property brings benefits to competitive models. We are also gradually adjusting opinions. Whether it would be beneficial for another technical progress after canceling the 3.5 mm headset jack, HTC U11 is just the right example.
