iPhone X's asymmetrical real dual cameras contains a 28mm equivalent F1.8 wide-angle lens for the main camera, and a 52mm equivalent F2.4 telephoto lens, both are equipped with OIS system. The sub-camera looks much better than that on iPhone 8 Plus with larger aperture and OIS. In addition, the focus length shortened.

The equivalent focus length of iPhone 8 Plus rear camera is 28mm and 56mm, exactly 2X. , however, iPhone X is about 1.86X. So, we were wondering when touching the 2X in camera app it will be 2X with digital zoom or just 1.86X. Let's have look at the photos above. iPhone X's sub-camera got wider viewing angle, so its focus length is shorter, which means iPhone X's 2X in camera app is actually 1.86X.

This change should be something with the OIS. Apple choose to shorten a little focus length to contain telephoto lens and OIS system, then the 2X is simply switch to the sub-camera.

iPhone X would focus on almost whatever you want with sensitive and accurate pre-focus system and fast focus speed. Till now, fast is not rare in rear cameras, almost all mid and high end smartphone is able to focus fast, however, focus experience is not just determined by speed.

The default metering mode of iPhone X is average based on scenes, while in high contrast scenes, the high-light parts may overflow a little, brings negative effect to details, just like the iPhone 8 series.
